Mud Rotary Drilling
What is Mud Rotary Drilling?
In mud rotary drilling, fluid is pumped down the hollow drill pipe, forced out of openings in the drill bit. Cuttings, or cut materials, are then carried to the surface via the mud and is then reused either through a mud containment system or pit.
Benefits:
- Holes can be drilled in geology with water ingress, and can be used as the most accurate form of directional drilling at depth
- Effective for difficult ground conditions
Applications:
- Used for the drilling of utility, paste, de-watering and other infrastructure holes
- Used for borehole development in the oil and gas industry
- Used to drill pilot holes for the attachment of large reamers used during raise boring
