ROCK BORING

The process used in underground mining to mechanically excavate or drill a circular hole between two levels within a mine, eliminating the need for explosives, reducing risk, increasing speed and efficiency, enhancing precision and decreasing costs.

Raise
Boring

Our machines are fast and operate efficiently in hard rock. These qualities result in substantial cost saving benefits for our clients as raise boring accounts for 20% to 30% of the rate or cost of conventional shaft sinking.

Horizontal
Boring

Horizontal Raise Boring’s (HRB) continuous excavating cycle produces a stronger structure than conventional drilling and blasting, and is more cost effective and reliable than other systems.

Box Hole
Boring

Predominantly utilised to create ventilation tunnels, slot raises, through passes and tunnels used to extract ore. The most effective method to use when there is limited space to make a safe hole between two levels.

Slot
Boring

Slot boring systems are faster-moving than the other conventional boring methods as the length of boring is shorter and normally a number of holes are required. There is no sequence to the holes and a suite of equipment can easily move between levels, lodes or east/west sections of a mine, between holes.

Reef
Boring

The ore bearing reef is extracted with modified raise bore drills. Applied in narrow reef mining and removes the requirement to use explosives. Consists of small units that are able to move down small shaft infrastructures. The rig, power packs, drill rods, directional steering heads and vacuum units are all specially configured by Master Drilling for optimum performance.

Mobile Tunnel
Boring

Ability to bore tunnels horizontally and at an incline or decline at various diameters. Application in mining development and access to ore as well as in civils industry for tunnels and cross tunnels.

Blind Shaft
Boring System

Ability to bore a shaft blindly as opposed to sinking methodology. Quicker, safer and more cost effective than conventional methods. Entails the use of a raise boring machine, reverse circulation modified rods, a down reamer, and mud circulation and compressor systems for air lift, flooded hole concepts. This system also helps improve mine production and logistics.

SLIM
DRILLING

The drilling of holes smaller in diameter for effective and cost-effective exploration

Reverse Circulation
Drilling

Master Drilling’s specialised equipment offers a non-invasive form of drilling (with no hole deterioration) along with enhanced safety features.

Core
Drilling

This system meets all client requirements, from underground/surface rigs and steel water reticulation systems, to onsite video monitoring and digital reporting.

Mud Rotary
Drilling

Very effective in difficult ground conditions, aiding positive pressure and low flow or flush velocities. Master Drilling applies mud rotary drilling principles to all raise boring pilot drilling applications.

A mobile type of drilling with fast production rates. Here, rigs can be easily configured to include reverse circulation or mud rotary drilling.

Air Rotary
Drilling

Utilised in weak ground -  a raise boring rig is used to establish a pilot hole for paste and utility holes or a raise bored shaft.

SUPPORT

Directional
Drilling

Drills a straight shaft, for which there are many applications. The system can also be utilised as an alternative to blind sinking with explosives.

Stage Shaft
Support

Used for the support of a shaft - is flexible, can be utilised in already excavated shafts and does not require the use of explosives.

Remote - Operate
Shaft Support

This is a remote controlled device that is lowered down a shaft. Rigs have two different configurations: self contained units for the application of shotcrete and “umbilical chords” used to apply wet crete.

Master Drilling offers a range of pile walls designed to meet specific project needs and budgetary requirements.

Geo Intelligence

Master Drilling caters for all geological requirements - from analysis, monitoring and managing, to in-depth analysis and reporting.
